A Lower Birth Rate

Nowadays, people are not willing to have more children as before. Unlike my parents who have five to six siblings, people around my age have only one or two. It is even getting less recently. According to the statistics of the Monitory of the Interior, the fertility rate has been dropped rapidly within fifty years. The problem of declining in birth rate not only exists in Taiwan but also in national wide. However, what are the reasons resulting in the low birth rate? There are four main causes indicates as following. First, there is an increasing female participation in the labor force. The more women are qualified, the more independent they are in economy. So they rather make money in the labor force than staying at home to take care of the kids. Second, due to the expectation of having fewer children, married couple would have just one or two kids instead. Third, in the family tradition, housework is mostly done by females. Showed by the statistic, the percentage of taking care of family and educating the children is 75% much higher than the percentage of 31.3% done by males. Therefore, the working women tend to not bear both housework and work at the same time. The last reason is that parents do not rely on their children taking care of them when they are old these days. The old-fashioned idea of hoping kids to take care the elders has been changed already. In short, there four causes leaded to a decreasing in birth rate in worldwide.
