A Trip to Taipingshan
On last Saturday, we went to Taipingshan national recreation area where is located in Yilan. We woke up at 5 in the morning in order to avoid the traffic jam along the Hsuehshan Tunnel. It took us another1 hours to go from Yilan city area. When we got there, it was almost 11 a.m. it was cold up there, but the view was great. Maple leaves have some gone red in this season. We also took the train to the other place where has a waterfall. However, it took 3 hours by foot to go. We gave up because we planned to go Emeral Peak Lake. After we visited the lake, we found that the lake was not as beautiful as we thought it should be. It was not full of water and seemed a bit dry because of shortage of rain. It was a wonderful day even the whole trip was not as fun as we planned. However, we were still glad to see the great view in Yilan.
Ghost Month
In Chinese culture, there is an event which is the Hungry Ghost Festival held in the month, July, of the Chinese Lunar New Year. It is taken seriously because people believe that the gates of hell are opened to let out the hungry ghosts who then wander to seek food on Earth during the month. Therefore, most of families and companies would celebrate this festival on 7th of the month to remember their dead family members and pay tribute to them as well as pray and pay tributes to other unknown wandering ghosts so that these homeless souls will not intrude into their daily life and bring along misfortunes or bad luck. On the other hand, 7th of July of the Chinese Lunar New Year is also a day called the Chinese Valentine’s day. Thus, the young generation pays attention to the day as Valentine’s Day more than the Hungry Ghost Festival.

What is in now
If you ask what’s hot now? In fact, I would tell you the skinny stretch pants are the most popular item now. If you’re still wearing baggy jeans or bell-bottom jeans, sorry, but I have to say your fashion taste is out of date. You can put away your loose-fitting trousers because the trend now is “tighter is better”. Leggings are also coming back from the past. Wearing long T-shirts with leggings have again become very popular. I’m always wondering who designed those clothes and who decide the trends. Nevertheless, don’t be fooled by media advertisement when buying your own fashion. The pretty model pictures on billboard are fixed by computers and made to be perfect. No matter how the fashion trend goes, you should walk into a store and try it on to see if it really fit you or not. Honestly, I don’t like those skinny pants at all. It’s unfortunate that the skinny stars and models we see on TV are unknowingly sending out message to people about “being thin is hot”. Every time when I turn on TV, I only see perfect body actors and actresses. I always wonder what will happen to the fashion world if one day the trend is about “bigger is better”. Will the models on magazine all look over-sized? Big or thin, tall or short, I think the focus should be our inner beauty. I hope one day the fashion trend will be more about healthy living and natural looking than what seems like the “dying-look” now!
An Idea of Fashion Trend
I love to go shopping and check out the latest fashions for the season when I have time. Looking back at the changes in fashion over the past decades, it seems that fashion trends tend to recycle every few decades. The fashion that was popular in the past might come back to market again. Window shopping is a good method to learn what is hot on market. Watching TV is also a good way to keep updated about fashion. Just look around, and you will see young people trying to create the same look as the movie stars, musicians, or any famous people who they idolize. In my opinion, fashion is about individuality. It’s about finding out what styles fit you the best. It’s not a surprise that the clothes that looked good on others may not look good on you or me.

Night Market
Night markets in Taiwan have become famous popular tourist destinations among sightseeing foreign travelers. Some of them were just street markets that operate in urban or suburban areas and serve some foods or drinks which easily to be eaten while walking. As some TV shows introduce the foods or drinks in the night markets, they have become popular to tourists and the places where must-go for people who come to travel in Taiwan. Therefore, there not only have foods or drinks around but also many booths where you can buy things at cheaper prices. Some people think that night markets are crowed, noisy and dirty. However, they are full of fun to me and being the places where people go around with family or friends.
A Date on Father's Day
It was 8th of August yesterday which was the Father’s Day. My friend and I celebrated it with family on the day before already. Thus, we were free on the Father’s Day. During the day, we went to the Miramar Entertainment Park in Dazhi. The reason I went there was not for shopping but taking the ferris wheel. I had never tried it since it was built. So my friend took me there and we sat on a passenger car. It was fun. I knew that if someone who is afraid the height he or she would feel scared. However, I don’t afraid of height. I like anything which makes me excited. So I was really enjoying the moment when the ferris wheel circling around. Then we went to a golf practicing ground. It was the first time for both of us to try to play golf. There were people who looked very professional with the outfits and postures. Comparing with them, I was just wearing a pair of sandals which is too casual to play golf. We were there just for fun; we didn’t really care the result but the experience. After three boxes of balls, we finished playing. Then we realized that we were not suitable to play golf because the expense of playing golf was too expensive to afford.
